“Wow you’ve got so big, soon you’ll be bigger than me!”. Everytime Nanny came to visit, those were her first words to Rose and Thijs. They would stand next to her and say “Nearly, Nanny!” while standing on their tip toes. Then there would be cuddles and the kids would ask Nanny if she’s brought any presents with her. Thijs would already be opening her suitcase to have a rummage around.
Well Mum, they are bigger than you now. They have grown up so much, you would be looking up to them when you get those cuddles. They would be wrapping their arms around your shoulders and you would be the one standing on your tip toes.
Even now, Rose says to me “do you think I would be bigger than Nanny now?” and she would, as she’s nearly as tall as me. Thijs is not far behind. It’s like Nanny was their measuring stick, once they took over Nanny they were all grown up. Well, nearly.
You would be so proud of them Mum, they are great kids. Each of them growing and finding their way in the world. Not without challenges, but that’s life. We miss you terribly, today more than ever. We feel you with us, like a comfort blanket in those moments when we need you most.
We may be bigger than Nanny, but we will never be bigger than Nanny.
