I’ve got about 3 blogs on the go at the moment. One is a bit of a guide to Dijkstra’s New Zealand with all the favourite places we have visited (work in progress), one is a “woe is me” feeling sorry for myself blog (don’t think I will be posting that one) and this one. We have just one week left in New Zealand before we head off to Hong Kong for a few days on our way back to The Netherlands. Just one week! Over the past few weeks I have been thinking alot about our year in New Zealand and what I’m going to miss. Obviously there is so much but I wanted to note down some favourites….so here goes…..in no particular order!
I will miss…….
- Waking up in the camper on a frosty morning, hearing the birds/the ocean/the animals, snuggling back under the blankets for a while.
- Waking up with purpose, loading 10 horses on the truck as the sun rises to go to the race track.
- Galloping the horses, feeling the power and learning a different style of riding (and using different muscles! 😆).
- Driving along the NZ roads, enjoying the views of the stunning snow capped mountains, beautiful winding rivers with crystal clear water, turning a corner and being wowed by yet another coastal view.
- Meat balls from BJ’s.
- Friendly kiwis (and Poms 😜) making us feel welcome, helping us, taking us into their homes, drinking with us! We’ve made some friends for life.
- Having no agenda, drive and see where we get to, taking detours and being blown away time and time again.
- Going to the beach and watching the constant crashing waves.
- Quality time with the kids, getting school work done then off to the beach!
- Afternoon naps.
- Watching the kids playing in the sea in their underwear, chasing waves.
- The challenge of home schooling the kids….nahhh won’t miss that!
- Discovering and exploring new campsites, talking to other campers (especially chatting with the young european backpackers when they really didn’t want to).
- Lakeside sunrises and ocean sunsets.
- Southern hemisphere star gazing….the milky way! Just stunning and so different from back home.
- Being homeless and jobless but feeling rich in life.
- Sharing our memories and experiences….can I blog when I’m back home please?
- Getting out of our comfort zone time and time again and still winning.
I’ve been reading this list and thinking there must be more….I must be forgetting something, and I’m 100% certain there are lot more things I will miss about New Zealand but to be honest the list would be never ending. It has been wonderful. I knew the year would go fast but wow it really has flown. We have had many many amazing experiences that we will never forget. We’re already talking about our next trip……. yes we would do it again but would need to save up first!! But also looking forward to continuing our adventures when we get home, continuing to follow our dreams and focus on what is important in life. Life lessons have definitely been learnt, and now we need to continue building on that when we are home.
One more week to go…..everything is falling in to place. Just the car to sell and then we are off….the bags are being packed and nearly ready to go!
