You know when a man has man-flu all he really wants is his mum….well that was a TJ last week. He was suffering bad, and he pretty much just wanted to go home ☹️. The kids hated school and me? Well I decided to have a week “off” and buggered off to see my mates Mick and Sue back in Hawkes Bay. Sorry TJ, I’m outa here 😜. Actually he was recovering and he had some fun with the kids while I was gone, but it was clear we needed to change it up a bit.
After house sitting and Wwoofing (part time work in exchange for accommodation and food) we decided we needed a holiday 🤣. So we after house sitting for a month in Clydevale (which was lovely by the way), we are now going off on our own again. That means camping…in the coldest part of New Zealand….in the middle of winter….are we mad??
Actually it was really exciting, getting to use our fabulous camper trailer again. A quick stop off to buy a heater and an electric blanket and we are off! We are following the Southern scenic route from Dunedin around to Te Anau and the onwards up the West coast. The first night was verrrrry windy and rainy but we were toasty in bed (apart from the moment Thijs woke up on the cold floor at 2am 🥶).
We have seen so many amazing views along the way, ticked off Slope Point (most southern point of NZ) and Stewart Island (beautiful!). We visited our friend Nico in Kaka Point and had a lovely dinner with him. We visited waterfalls and a blowhole and many lookout points to wonder at the wild sea. Stunning. Just what we needed. TJ’s smile is back and we are feeling rejuvenated and back to being a family on holiday again ❤️. The kids are still doing some school work but I’m not too concerned, they will catch up again and the life experience is invaluable.
Ok I’m off to play ping pong with Rose….lots of love from the Dijkstra’s on tour!!!
Love

Hi Mum, it’s funny I’m more interested in keeping warm than bothered about how we look! It’s all about layers and big wholly socks!! Miss you, lots of love Kelly xxx
