Watching the washing dry

Posted on February 12, 2019February 12, 2019 by Kelly

The washing is in the line, within 30 mins it will be dry.  It was 30 degrees today, hot hot hot!  This morning there was a thick fog over the hills when we fed the horses, which hadn’t lifted much an hour later when we rode the first 2 horses out to the track.  By the 2nd group of horses the fog had lifted and the sun was out in full force, glorious blue skies and clear view across the land towards the hills and mountains in the distance, stunning.  By the 3rd group we were glad of a little wind at the top of the hill, but there wasn’t much.  By the 4th group we were sweating, horses and riders alike (well I was anyway!) as it was the approaching noon.  1230 and all the horses are done ✅ and then off to see how hubby and kids are getting on with schoolwork.

Once schoolwork is done we either take a drive into town or chill out at our apartment, which is what we did today.  Then at 4.30pm comes feed time again for the horses then for us.

Ok let’s rewind a bit….we had a lovely time house sitting for Sally and Nathan, thoroughly enjoyed looking after the animals and had some lovely rides on Diddi, even took Rose along a few times on their other horse Snapchat.  What a beautiful farm they have, it was just stunning ❤️

We are now at another race horse trainers farm (Paul and Carol) this time a bit further inland in Maraekakaho.  We have an apartment on the farm and I’m helping training the horses across their own very hilly fields and around an amazing race track they have at the back of their property.

Riding to the track
Zed (from Sue and Mick) 👍🏻❤️

EVERY DAY IS A LEG DAY 😂😂😂 I’m starting to get used to the little jockey saddle but oh my god my legs were killing me after the first couple of days, I was walking like an old lady ha ha.  But now it’s day 4 and I’m over it, bring it on!! I’m riding usually 4 horses each morning, either trotting around the hilly (think mountains!) fields or cantering on the track (also on a hill).  It’s great!  The horses are all well behaved and I love riding them, every time returning with a big grin on my face 😁.  Another great experience. 😊❤️

Paul and Carol are taking a few days off on holiday so me and TJ are feeding morning and night and generally keeping an eye on things, pretty cool. 😊. TJ has been out shooting, already scoring us a rabbit which he very proudly cooked up for us! He’s the man! 💪🏻😋

Right this very moment I am sitting here, at 6.15pm with a Diet Coke and my feet up , watching the sun go down.  TJ has just started cooking, we have lamb for dinner tonight.  We were very kindly given a whole sheep to eat, so we will be thinking of some different ways to eat lamb over the next few weeks! 😂  We are pretty happy here 👍🏻 (the caravan is a taboo subject at the moment…..). 👎🏻

I’m trying to convince TJ to write a bit of a blog to give his view on things, but he’s not keen…..maybe he needs some encouragement?  Oh and the next installment of a day in the life of Rose will be coming soon, she’s still in the development phase as she wants it to be different 😂😂😂

Laters!
