We made it!

Posted on November 6, 2018 by Kelly
Our cottage!

It was a fun filled adventure, the journey to New Zealand, that was for certain.  Apparently I was “misinformed” about our luggage allowance which led to me running (yes running!) across Schiphol airport to pick up 3 additional hand luggage cases so that we could unpack one of our cases…..yes we were one of those families sitting on the airport floor with our belongings being flung from one case to another, with an hour until our flight departed. Let’s just leave it at that.  We made it, albeit a bit sweaty and close to tears, to the plane on time.

The stopover in Kuala Lumpur was great, gave us some time to chill out and we found a nice play area for the kids to have some fun before our next flight.  Rose was fascinated by the “hole in the ground” toilets but didn’t dare to try it out ☺️.

What I’ve noticed is that the kids are already experiencing some amazing things that they will never forget.  All the different cultures at the airport, the moonlight lit clouds as we flew above Australia, the sun rising as we approached New Zealand.  So many questions already, they are just soaking it all up.  It really got me thinking that yes, we are doing the right thing, our kids will be rich from all the life experiences they will encounter.

We sailed through immigration at Auckland airport with no issues, and were greeted by my friend Nikki who very kindly drove us to our cottage in Whangapaora.  The cottage is gorgeous!  A great find on Airbnb, our own cottage with lots of little rooms and different places to sleep, the kids are in their element.   I woke up this morning feeling different, it is like the stresses of work, the build up to our trip and all the other worries are just falling away.  This is it, this is why we are doing this, all we have to worry about is what fun things are we going to do first!
